How to UNZIP a File

Files are often compressed, or "zipped up", to make them easier and quicker to download or upload over the internet, either from a web site or in e-mail.  Many files can be put in a single zip file, and instead of downloading many files one at a time, you can do it all at once when they are zipped up.  A zip file will have a .zip extension, as curriculum.zip.

To unzip a file You must have an "unzipping" utility, such as WinZip.  (You can get a free copy of WinZip here:  http://www.winzip.com/download.htm )

To unzip a file, double-click the icon of your zipped file:

Your unzipping program will open:

I am using WinZip. When WinZip opens, click on the "I agree" button.

This will  bring up the WinZip Wizard with your zipped file ready for unzipping.  It will be unzipped to the "unzipped" folder on your c:/ drive, but you can select a different folder by clicking on the "Select different folder" button, and browsing to a folder of your choice.  Click on the "Unzip Now" button at the bottom and your file will be automatically unzipped.

The folder will open for you with the files ready to go if you check "Display file icons after unzipping" as shown above.
